Programming men and machines. Changing organisation in the artillery computations at Aberdeen Proving Ground (1916-1946)

A detailed account of organizing ballistic computation at Aberdeen Proving Ground, from World War I to World War II, is given. In particular, the interactions between mathematical aspects and practical computational aspects, viz. manual calculation, analogue and digital machinery, are studied.
