Supreme Judicature in the Habsburg Netherlands

Résumé

The Departmental Section of Legal History at the University of Granada, the research Group Justice and Government in the History of Spanish and European law (SEJ-463) and the Faculty of Law at the Free University of Berlin organized the International Congress focused on the formation of the Supreme Justice in Europe. The commemoration of the V centenary of the death of Ferdinand the Catholic (1452-1516) offers an excellent occasion to ask about the meaning of his era within the frame of the European High Courts jurisdiction. While in the Spanish kingdoms the judicial institutions and the governments were regulated with the reforms of the Royal Council of Castille, the creation of new Council, as the one of Aragon, and the splitting of the Audiencia and the Chancillería —Valladolid and Granada - , in the Netherlands the Grand Conseil de Malines is formed and in the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation it was the Reichskammergericht. So we have the opportunity of this international Congress, with the participation of renowned experts in History of Law, linked to the universities of Leiden, Leuven and Louvaine-la Neuve, Maastricht, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Turku, Passau, Würzburg, Free University of Berlin, Göttingen and Granada.
