Résumé

The present study has been conducted in the frame of Interreg SOCORRO2 project (Seeking out corrosion - before it is too late). This European project aims to provide industries with an independent tool based on machine-learning to assess corrosion risks of their installations in contact with sea water. The objective is to rise their awareness and provide them with the appropriate tools in order to take preventive actions against corrosion damage that often results in economic losses. In this context and to feed the machine-learning algorithm with data, a new sensor based on the Coda Wave Interferometry (CWI) technique has been design and first results showed that it was able to qualitatively monitor corrosion on some conditions (presented in Eurocorr2021). The study on those new sensors has been going to further validate their suitability to monitor corrosion. In this paper, CWI based on ultrasonic diffuse waves is used to quantitively monitor corrosion during electrochemical experiment on steel. For corrosion assessment different steel specimens and different media (example: salted water 3 wt.% NaCl) have been investigated. Steels samples are monitored using two embedded Ultrasonic transducers at 5-15 MHz. The correlation coefficient (CC) is computed for each coda-window according to the reference. The present work presents the interest of CWI technique and sensor to provide a cheap and effective solution to monitor corrosion.
