The German Office for the Protection of the Constitution has been monitoring the Left Party (Die Linke, formerly the Party of Democratic Socialism PDS) for many years, and in particular certain groups and currents within the party, such as the Communist Platform. The accusations revolve around calls for revolution and support for violence: actions around the G8 or G20, for example.
Within this extreme left-wing movement, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution also placed a daily newspaper under observation for its support of these groups and currents: junge Welt, the former official organ of the FDJ (German Free Youth) in the GDR, which presented itself as the only Marxist daily.
Although the newspaper has been under observation since 1998, the publisher and editorial staff decided in September 2021 to strike a blow by filing a summary judgment against the state/government on September 10, 2021, in the name of "press freedom" with the Berlin Administrative Court.
