Sustainability, Cities and the Role of Law in Local Life

Résumé

Aim of the Legal Research Network Conferences The conferences of the Legal Research Network (LRN) offer a common space for both senior and junior scholars to present and discuss their research in a friendly and stimulating international environment, which transcends the traditional boundaries of the legal sub-disciplines. 2017 Conference Theme The last three decades witnessed the rise of sustainability discourses. Sustainability has emerged as dominant concept through which societal problems are addressed in policy-making, regulation, and governance at the international, European, and national level. As a concept, sustainability rests on three pillars: an environmental, an economic, and a social pillar. Acknowledging the interrelationship between these three pillars enables us to advance the sustainability of our societies for both present and future generations. Law arguably has a role to play in the advancement of sustainability since legal rules govern many of the relationships constitutive of both sustainable and unsustainable practices. The conference aims to bring together scholars from different disciplinary backgrounds to discuss the relationship between law and sustainability.
