Design of fire resistant, sound-absorbing and thermal-insulated expandable polystyrene based lightweight particleboard composites

Résumé

Flame retardant expanded polystyrene based lightweight particleboard (EPS-PBs), which has a potential used for engineering wall panels as construction filling materials was successfully prepared using a novel and facile approach in this work. Flammability characterization using a limiting oxygen index and cone calorimetry tests revealed significantly improved fire resistance. It is demonstrated that the gas dilution effect and formation of dense char response for the enhancement of flame retardant property. Meanwhile, the flame retardant EPS-PBssamples leads to a 109.1% and 31.9% incensement in average sound absorption coefficients and thermal conductivity coefficients compare with that of the neat one.
