A Driver and his Licence in Senegal. Professional Ethos and Documentary Imaginary

Résumé

In this short chapter, the author describes what makes driving licences so special for Senegalese professional drivers through the portrait of a young driver. The place this document holds within the profession is determined by a series of representations which are specific to this social group, and which heavily relate to the vision of what a rightful career is in this part of society. From this perspective, popular representations of the state are socially embedded into the professional imaginary.
